Verify an integrity code

A Chitthi document carries a SHA-256 integrity code calculated from the informant's exact words and the moment they were sealed. This page recomputes that code so anyone — an investigating officer, an advocate, a court — can check for themselves that the account has not been altered since.

Everything below runs in your own browser. Nothing you paste here is sent anywhere, logged, or stored. You can disconnect from the network and this page will still work.

1 — The account

The informant's account, exactly as it appears under “Column 12” Copy it character for character, including line breaks. A single changed letter or an extra space will produce a different code — that is the point. Sealed-at timestamp The ISO timestamp. If the document shows only a readable date, the exact value cannot be reconstructed and the check cannot be completed — ask the informant for the original file. The integrity code printed on the document 64 hexadecimal characters.

2 — A photograph or document

Each item of material was fingerprinted on the informant's phone at the moment it was added. Select the file here and its code is recomputed. If it matches the value listed under “Material relied upon”, the file has not been altered since it was added.

What this proves and what it does not. A matching code shows that the text or file is byte-for-byte what it was when it was sealed on the informant's own device, and that the sealing carries the stated date and time. It does not prove the truth of what is described, and it does not prove the device clock was correct. It is evidence of integrity, not of fact. This page is not legal advice.
